#DIV/0! Error in Pivot table using external data source

I have a pivot table accessing data using the external data source option via Data Connections. I am averaging 8 data fields in the pivot table and 4 fields are giving a #DIV/0 error. When I open a data sheet within the pivot table to look at the data, I see that the data has an error message "number stored as text". However, the external data source used does display these fields as text.

Note: I do not experience this problem when the data is retrieved via the excel table/range option.

    Sound familiar to anyone?

#DIV/0 error will occur when the divider is blank or 0.

If the text data is entered then it will show result as #VALUE! not #DIV/0 error.

no-if you try and average a range containing text you will get DIV/0 since all the text cells are ignored

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to

Obviously the divider is automatically assigned to 0 which is covered in my above quote.

If the text data is entered then it will show result as #VALUE! not #DIV/0 error.
But this quote has became wrong. Yeah good catch

In fact while replying I totally forgot the Average function instead I am just thinking about value / value logic.

    Thanks for pointing

Exact same problem. When using an external data source (i.e. PivotTable Options tab-->Change Data Source, second radio button "Use an external data source" the values come into the pivot as text. When data source is the first radio button ("Table/Range") they come in as values.

What is the difference here? Will the data refresh regardless?

    Thanks,
