Simple Schedule Chart- How to set date range?

    Schedule_v2.xlsx

    Using the instructions here: http://www.officetooltips.com/excel_...ntt_chart.html
I have created a very simple chart to show the schedule of the project.
I cannot seem to set the date range in the horizontal axis to the actual rage of my data.
When I try to set the Max/Min in the "format axis" area, it is in a large number format that I do not understand, and cannot seem to manipulate to fit my data.

    Thanks in advance.

If I followed it correctly, I think you just missed Step 3 in the directions.

"Right-click one of the dates along the category axis and select Format Axis... in the popup menu:
(picture of the pop-up menu is displayed here)
In the Format Axis dialog box, adjust the horizontal axis Minimum and Maximum scale values to correspond to the earliest and latest dates in the data. You also may want to set the Major unit to 7 to indicate weeks"

I would probably also leave the Major unit set to Auto and set the Minor unit to 7 with the minor tick mark type inside for your case, since your timeframe is longer than the one in the example.

You can change the number in there to a date; just clear what's in the box and use 1/1/14 (or whatever you choose) as the fixed value. Excel will convert this to a number that it recognizes as a date, and it should show up correctly.

Thanks, I did find this step.
When I attempt to change the Min & Max scale values, they do not accept a date format.axis format.JPG
They simply revert back to the number already in the box.
I am wondering if I am missing something.

It looks like the dates are coming across in there (in your spreadsheet), but it's the format of the dates you want changed? If so, go to Format Axis, then on the box on the left, choose Number (immediately under Axis Options), and then you should be able to choose Date and then format it as you would like.
