Help needed changing a bar chart's x-axis with dates to categories??? (EXCEL 2010)

I have a bar chart that has a date as the x-axis.
Not every date is in my chart since I do not have data for every date.
I'd like the x-axis to only display dates when I have data to plot.

I've searched around and it seems my answer is to change from "automatically select based on data" to "Text-axis" in Format Axis, Axis Options.

That kind of does what I want.... It does get rid of the unwanted dates. However, it also just squishes the data to the left and leaves the right side of the chart with empty space...

Please help this confused EXCEL 2010 Newbie!!!
