    Plotting Data in Excel (URGENT)

    Hi,

I have a data for sedimentation along a pipe. I measured sediment concentrations at different lengths of the pipe, after different intervals of time. So I have 35 concentration values, take at 5 different points along the pipe, at 7 different times. Is it possible to plot a chart with these 35 points, with depth on y-axis, time on x-axis? These 35 points are percent removals (0-100). Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure exactly what you want the plot to look like, but it sounds like a scatter plot should be suitable for what you want. Perhaps start here to understand how to create a scatter chart http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...478.aspx?CTT=1

Re: Plotting Data in Excel (URGENT)

    Hi,

Thank you for the reply. So what I want to plot is some numbers, at specific values of x and y.

    For example, at x=3 min, y= 15 cm, percent removal = 45%
    Similarly, at x = 6 min, y = 25 cm, percent removal = 55%.

    So on and so forth. 35 such points (at 7 x-values of 0, 3, 6, 12, 20, 35, 50 minutes, each with own 5 points for various y-values).

Have I been able to get my point across? Maybe this will make it more clear? Untitled.jpg

Still looks like a scatter chart, with some way of indicating the percentage removed at each point.

A bubble chart (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...749.aspx?CTT=1) uses bubble size to indicate relative value for "z" (percentage) at each x,y point.

Or you could use a regular XY scatter chart as described in my earlier response, with data labels for each point containing the percentage. The easiest way to add these kind of data labels is using Rob Bovey's free XY chart labeler add-in http://appspro.com/Utilities/ChartLabeler.htm

If I might suggest a different approach, since there are only 7 x values across the data set, I would tend to plot something like this in a contour plot -- plot z (percentage) vs. y, with a separate data series for each of the 7 x values.
