    Plot Area Help

I have a workbook with 1000 scatter plots showing different data. I am trying to line up a "column" of charts such that the Category axis (x) will only be displayed on the bottom one. I've got everything looking good and pretty except that the plot area on these bottom charts will not line up correctly without manually moving each one.

I have some VBA code which will resize the plot area, and this is not a problem. However, I don't have a way to determine the plot area of the other scatter plots so that I know what to set my Left, Top, Width, and Height to. If somebody could provide a way for me to find this that would be great.

    Thank you!

Your problem sounds exactly like something Jon Peltier describes in one of his panel chart tutorials:
I can make three separate charts, one for each series, and each clearly shows its data. If I could simply align them above each other, perhaps hide the date axis on two of them to remove clutter, it would be a good chart. ... This might work, although it is next to impossible to align the horizontal scales exactly.
If it is not too late to take those 1000 scatter plots and combine them as needed into panel charts, I would suggest you check out this tutorial to see if a panel chart is right for you. http://peltiertech.com/Excel/ChartsH...venScales.html

Thanks. That's down the right "alley" of what I'm doing. The problem is that my data isn't that variable or easily classified (I'm looking at chemical constituents at different locations), nor do I want to introduce a million calculations to the raw data (it's getting printed and used for reporting as well- adding a bunch of calculations and rows to hide will just create more problems down the road). If the plots were being printed to a sheet of paper 40 feet long and 60 feet high, I could easily show it all on a single scatter plot. But: as it sits, I need each location to have its own plot. The single axis on the bottom plot just clears some of the clutter from the page.

    Re: Plot Area Help

You can use the plotarea Insidexxx properties, Left/Top/Width/Height, to determine size and position of boxed area. But you can only read those values.
You still need to use the standard Left/Top/Width/Height properties to move and resize.

Have you tried keeping the category labels the same for all charts and then formatting all but one so that the label font matches the chart area colour?
    Cheers
