    Prob with Area Chart

    Hi.

I am using an area chart to display the price spread between different types of wheat.
Now the problem I am having is that, at the "end" of the chart, ie. the most recent observation date, the line drops to zero while the value is actually well above zero. How can I avoid this ? Thanks for your suggestions.

    I am attaching a screenshot.

    Re: Prob with Area Chart

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We always prefer to see the actual workbook rather than pictures of it - see guidance notes in the forum rules. It avoids the need for us to waste time recreating your data. Please remember for the future.

You'll need to add a second series that's exactly the same as the current series, then select that series and change the Chart Type to a simple Line chart. Then just colour this series as appropriate and make it a different colour than the area chart series.

    Re: Prob with Area Chart

    Hi.

I tried the way as described by Richard, but the result was not entirely satisfying in the sense that the resulting chart looked a bit flurry for whatever reason.

I was then thinking of just formatting the very last datapoint (to white color so that it becomes invisible) so that the sudden "break" at the end of the chart disappears. However, it seems I cannot select a single datapoint. Can you help or think of any other simple work-around ?

    Many thnks
    Fabian

Attachment: unfortunately, the upload of the excel file doesnt work so I have uploaded a screenshot of the chart
PS I am using excel 2010, windows
