    Help with Percentages

This will sound silly but here goes.
I am working on a spreadsheet to keep attendance at meetings. I have used "X" to mark someone present. I have calculated all of the "X's" to once column then I want to get a percentage of meetings they attend. Here is what I have:

=COUNTIF(A3:V3,"X") - This gives me the number of meetings attended there are a total of 21 scheduled.
=(X3/21)*100 - This should give me the percentage of meetings attended.

Problem is I get 476%, I know it will be something simple, just wanted to ensure the formulas were right and it should be something simple confusing me.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Not getting that result here. If I put X into 16 cells, I get 76.19047619.

First check - what's the value in X3? It is less than 21, right?
I think the *100 is right to look at %age.
The problem must be that X3 is more than 21. Are you accidentally doing A2:V3? This would add two people.

    Try x3/21

    format x3 for a percentage.

    Total Percentage

    1 476%

This is what shows up and this is what I have for the formulas.

    Total
    =COUNTIF(A3:V3,"X")

    Percentage
    =(X3/21)*100

There are 21 day of meetings I have in this scenario marked this attendee as being at the first meeting , the rest are blank.

Not sure if this is a formula issue or a numbering issue? Everything seems to be fine with the formulas.

    Re: Help with Percentages

Looks like you have **BOTH** the (*100) in the formula AND the target cell formatted as a "percent" which automatically multiplies by 100 to make a percent. You only need one of those. Your answer is simply 100x too big. 1/21= 0.0476 as a percent that should be 4.76%. By formatting your cell as % and also multiplying by 100 you have double dipped on percentagizing your number. Either take out the *100 _or_ format the cell as a simple number.
