How to use VLOOKUP to solve this

I need a formula that needs to get the date off of the 1st sheet then go to the table in the second sheet find the same date and the type and return the value of that type for that date... so a template is attached for you to understand what I am trying to do...

I know there is a simple way to do this besides using 2 vlookups or something like that so please help me out with this...

=SUMIFS(Sheet2!$E:$E,Sheet2!$C:$C,Sheet1!$D$3,Sheet2!$D:$D,Sheet1!$B5) in cell c5, and copied down. Assumes you're using 2007 or later.

On sheet1 in the cell C5 try this Array Formula. Since this is an Array Formula so you need to confirm it with Ctrl + Shift + Enter instead of just Enter. (i.e. hold down the Ctrl + Shift and then press Enter)
