Formula Extract hostname only from the domain

Please help I have 2 columns and only need the hostname printed on a separate columns and then check duplicates between the 2 columns

Column A contains full domain names

    11100011.com
    11194.com
    113dir.com
    11dots.com
    123greetinscard.com

other Column B contains entries like this

    www.google.com
    us.yahoo.com
    www.facebook.com

Output columns should not contain any ".com",.uk and also no "www", etc at the beginning

    so output must look

    Column A

    11100011
    111941
    123greetinscard

    Column B

    google
    yahoo
    facebook

Re: Formula Extract hostname only from the domain

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Can you guarantee that, for column A entries, your desired extraction will always be the characters from the start of the string upto the first full-stop?

And that, for column B entries, your desired extraction will always be the characters between the first and second full-stops?

If you can't, and there are variations on the above which you haven't given, could you please do so?

    Regards

Yes for column A entries, your desired extraction will always be the characters from the start of the string upto the first full-stop

In columns B , yes its complicated as there are many variations in the entries , i need both : characters between 1 and 2nd dot and also character to the first full stop eg:

    people.com
    tools.apple.com
    www.google.co.uk,

Sorry. I don't understand your additional comment re column B entries.

To clarify things, please upload a workbook with a dozen or so examples and your expected result in each case. Make sure that your examples cover all variations in the types of strings we are dealing with.

    Regards
