# VLOOKUP formula problem

1. ## VLOOKUP formula problem

Dear people who are smarter than me,

I have a formula with VLOOKUP formulas that is not working, and I can’t figure out where my problem is. After a crazy amount of time trying to figure it out, I figured I’d ask people who know more than me.

I attached a sample file with my “broken” formula. I highlighted the cells in question. Note that there are two sheets in the workbook.

My challenge is the following:

I need to calculate the headcount of a particular position, based on the appropriate combination a) the previous month’s headcount, and b) the current production, divided by the “staff metric”; or I insert “0” if the previous two criteria are false.

In the attached workbook, take the Administrative Assistant position, as an example (row 8 on the Results sheet). I cannot figure out why I’m getting the “#N/A” message and not a zero for January 2014. In fact, for the highlighted cells I should get the following results. However, you'll see that my results are different than my expectation.
D6 = 1
D7 = 0
D8 = 0
D9 = 0
D10 = 0
D11 = 1

Add a ,0 or ,FALSE to the end of your vlookup's. It gets the last part of your equation working at least (get's rid of the #N/A error).

3. ## Re: VLOOKUP formula problem

Have modified your formula for D6 to:
Formula:
`Please Login or Register to view this content.`
You need to replace what I have entered in quote marks and square brackets.

4. ## Re: VLOOKUP formula problem

I can't believe it was that simple of a fix (albeit "simple" is subjective). That solution works. Thank you very much, gak67!
