How do you enter a IF(or( statement in conditional formatting?

Hi I have a sheet that needs to colour cells based on whether they are occupied with a Yes or a Date, I cannont fathom out the If(or( statement for conditional formatting, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

just add two conditions (one for YES, one for Date) and have the same formatting for each of them

=OR(A1="yes",isnumber(A1)) but that supposes there are no other numers than dates

PS the IF is implicit in CF
