    "Wildcard" Vlookup

    Hi All,


    Is there anyway to do a "wildcard" VLOOKUP?

    basically what i need to do is match X numbers/ letters in the reference cell to the cell in my lookup table.

    I hope the attached sampole helps.

    Good afternoon Locopete99

    You can use the "*" wildcard in VLookUps, but you can't type it in as a direct string - you have to be a bit canny about it.
    See the explanation here. As a point of interest, you use the same type of technique to use widcards, >=, <= etc in SumIf and SumIfs.

    So in your example, what are you looking to achieve? Do you want, in Column B, a value from I if the string in H is in A?

    The only ones I get matches for on your example are 1 and 5

    substitute commas with semi-colons if your region settings requires

    That's exactly what i'm after. I have a huge sample base so i probably didn't pick the right corresponding ones.

    And yes 1 and 5 are the only ones that match. Let me know if needed and I will re-supply matching samples
