Count number of occurances in a column

I am looking to list the number of occurances in a column, without having to know what I am looking for. So if I have a list of states and they can appear multiple times, I don't want to make a table to look up, I just want to return a list of all the occurances and how many time they occurred:

    Alaska 5
    Alabama 9

    ....ect.

Looking for some pointers, new to this!

    Thanks!

Hi Michigan native and welcome to the forum,

You need to look at Pivot Tables that can do this easily, if you data is in a table.

If you could attach a sample file with some States in a column it is a 15 second process to do.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.
