Trying determine the number of unique occurances

    Hi To All-

I am having trouble trying to develop a formula that will count the unique months for a given ID.

Two sheets, the first has the Unique ID and that is where I want the formula.

The second sheet has one to multiple entries for each unique ID on sheet 1

I have attached a worksheet showing what I am trying to do. I've played around with this all morning, search the Web but haven't found the answer.

Any help you can give me will be extremely appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Assuming you are searching for distinct months, not unique months ( which are those that only appear once), does the attached help?

    Using your posted workbook...
This ARRAY FORMULA, completed by holding down CTRL and SHIFT when you press ENTER (instead of just pressing ENTER)
begins the count of unique year/month combinations for the referenced ID

Copy B2 and paste into B3 and down as far as you need.

Is that something you can work with?

    Hi John -
Your formula works on sheet 2. I need the solution loaded into Column B on Sheet 1

    Can you help with that?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Re: Trying determine the number of unique occurances

If you're referring to my post...That formula is intended to start on Sheet1, B2

Are you looking for something else?
