    Exclamation Hotel Work Scheduling Question!!!

    Hi guys!!!

I need to create a work schedule for employees in a hotel (Kitchen Department).
Each schedule is per week but i need to transfer the data from per week at the monthly report to the accounts department for the payroll.
I start creating the schedule but i need help with the dates.
I am trying to make the first schedule to be my master one to copy it for all the months and i will work for each month with new schedule.
The work times are in letters. For example N is for night shift, O is for day off and SP is for split.
How i can put a formula at my monthly report to collect all the data (letters) from the weekly reports and add them in the monthly report as numbers. For example when an employee had this work schedule :

    01/01/14 Monday: N
    02/01/14 Tuesday: N
    03/01/14 Wednesday: SP
    04/01/14 Thursday: O
    05/01/14 Friday: N
    06/01/14 Saturday: SP
    07/01/14 Sunday: N

At the monthly report to take these data and and translate them to work days. When are letters N and SP to translate it to 1 work day. When is O to leave the cell empty.

If you have any better solution for my work schedule excel document i will appreciate your help because is for 70 employees and the times for work are 20 different letters (time periods).

    Thank you!!!

You will get a better and quicker response if you upload a sample file. For instance, it would show if the sample data you have given is in one cell or split into 2 or 3 cells.

You would need to create a table with all of the letters that designate the time periods and a value that can be used to add total hours. The formula you need to put into your report will depend on the layout of the data. Please upload a sample file and we'll see if we can help.

I'm with gak67 that you get better answers if you upload an excel file, without confidential information.

I would solve it this way:

date / name / shift on 1 worksheet (for all 70 employee).

You can get the year / month / day / workday with formula.

You can get the shift with an formula (VLookup).

After that make an pivot tabe of your data.
Notice my main language is not English.

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.

If you are satisfied with the solution, please mark the question solved.
