External Reference and linking with workbooks

Hello every body ,

Friends, I am new to this forum , My self Varun ,working with engineering company , I am having interest in Excel that’s why I am here .
Today I am facing a problem which I want to share with you experts to get rid of it .

1.) In “status” work book I have list of documents and release date of that document.
2.) Another workbook “PS” I have a summary sheet where it will count no’s of documents release in specified month .
3.) Now I want to do is when I click on cell which is showing no’s of document s “ Result “ in specified month , then a separate workbook will open with list of documents with release date as counted in the cell “result “ for ex. If the april month shows 4 nos. then when I click on cell having result 4 , new work book with 4 nos of document and release date appears.
4.) Another problem I am facing is external links are not updating . when I use data – edit link- update value and then open source . then only result value appears.

Well may be this one is so simple for you guys but I m just stuck with it as of now .

Dear Frends ,

while surfing on internet , i came to know that workbook not update the external link if i am using conuntif , or sumif etc.
i have to use count( if function , i don't know how exactly it will be .

please help me to correct my workbook so that PS will autoupdate when i open the file .instead of opening the source file 1st .
