Stop excel auto formatting cells into dates. (yes that one) As of 20,May,2014

Has that been resolved in recent times? Because even if there is a solution on the web its cluttered under the tons of dissatisfaction this topic has generated over the past decade.

its about this prehistoric issue ...

Excel takes all sorts of number configurations - some that make no sense to be interpreted as dates and changes the formatting of cells from "general" to "date".

Some of the known workarounds are to change the number formats in regional options.
    To use CSV format.
Or apply text format to everything.

There isn't anything interesting added in excel options (at least not 2013).

Has a serious solution popped up over the years ?
The question is rather for those of you who are actually up to speed with excel progress.

    Solution :

There is a bug and a sequence of odd events that changes your "normal" style's number formatting to TIME.

Edit that back and you should be ok.

If the numbers you work with keep get recognized as time, you should just pre format your sheet as TEXT, you can reformat as whatever you want later if you need.
