Adding a Worksheet to work out my Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly/yearly income

    Hi all.

Bascially i have a spreadsheet that i put down how much profit i have made and the date i have sold the items, and then on another worksheet i have one showing how much profit i have made on certain dates also.

What i would like is 1 forumula on a seperate work sheet that can give me the figure of how much i have made in that paticular week/month/quarter/year and display it quite nicely without me having to change it every time i want to work out the next sum..

Is this possible Its basically got to look at the dates week by week or would i have to use a lot of if statements and change it every week ?

    Thankyou

Re: Need a little help most likely simple but a complete newbie

you can use a pivot table - but first , would you mind changing the title on the post , as a moderator will request the change to comply with the rules, and we cannot post until the title is changed

    1. Use concise, accurate thread titles. Your post title should describe your problem, not your anticipated solution. Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change the title of the thread, click EDIT on the original post, then click the Go Advanced button, then change the title. If two or more days have passed, the EDIT button will not appear, and you need to ask a moderator to change the title.

one showing how much profit i have made on certain dates
what version of excel do you have
you can make a pivot table of that sheet which will show you the profit by year / month etc

you can use a group by for Month/Quarter/Year

heres an example sheet with some dates and profit values

    workbooks or worksheets

can you setup a sample sheet ?
    and post here ?

have you used pivot tables before
all you would need to do is add more dates and values and then click on the pivot table and refresh and the data gets updated

you would probably need to add a week number to calc the weeks
    =weeknum(cell with date)

which sheet did you want to base the pivot table on?
also you have dates missing ,for the pivot table to work you would need dates on all rows
or those will just be grouped under blank

    heres an example using sheet1 column S & T

also one of the dates is 2015

i have also added a weeknum() onto column U - in the next attachment -
