Sorting INDEX-MATCH data and preserving row references

I have a document where I'm using INDEX-MATCH to pull information across tabs, and the initial pull is working beautifully. I have my $ locks set on the index array and the match array, and on the column for the match lookup value. However, when I try to sort this data, the row pointers are getting jumbled. So suddenly, row 143 will point to row 178, row 34 will point to row 57, and so on. I'd prefer not to copy and paste as values, because I want to only have to keep the master data on one sheet and have multiple tabs point to that. I don't have this problem building it with VLOOKUP, but I'd prefer to start using INDEX-MATCH due to the size of some of my tables. Is there a way to lock the formulas in place before I sort to preserve where they are pointing?
