Conditonal Formatting (When a number appears, the cell to the right changes color)

I'm trying to figure out a conditional formatting where if I have cell A1 as 1, then B1 will have a black color ( the cell block colored black). However, if i leave the A1 blank, then B1 is not colored.

I tried conditional formatting and failed.

    Please see attached sheet.

Re: Conditonal Formatting (When a number appears, the cell to the right changes color)

I apologize I made a mistake. What I was wanting to do is if the cell is blank, then the cell is colored. If it's not blank, then the cell is not colored. Please help.

    Thanks.

@Punnam: you don't really need an IF formula, just something that evaluates to TRUE or FALSE, hence, =B3=""

@Punnam: you just need the condition part, you don't need the TRUE or FALSE, or even the IF( bit.

B3="" will be either TRUE or FALSE; just a simple comparison. See post#2 for another example.
