Exclamation Comparing two lists of email adresses in Excel and Need help Highlighting the duplicates

For my company I need to compare two lists of emails, one master list, and one list of everyone that has opened it. I need to find the duplicates from this list, and that's the easy part. Here's what I don't know how to do: I need to find these duplicates and compare them to another column in the sheet that gives the geographic location for each email in the master list. I can't just remove duplicates because then it will adjust the order of the emails in correlation to their geographic location number. I am also working with a master list that contains half a million email address's, so highlighting and eyeballing the Geo locations connected is out of the question. I have combined the master email list with the geographic location column by separating the email and location with a comma with a "=A2&", "&D2" formula, but then I do not know how to highlight and sort out the duplicates, because there is an added numerical value and a comma in the cell even though the email addresses are the same. Please help this has been making my brain melt for over three days and I cannot seem to figure it out even when I make example sheets with much less data. Thanks !

You have this so deeply ingrained in your head that you forgot that we have no idea what this data looks like.

I would prefer that you not post a list of email addresses in a public forum, but can you at least tell us exactly what data is in which column?

Also, you said, "I need to find these duplicates and compare them to another column in the sheet that gives the geographic location for each email in the master list." What do you mean by "compare"? What is the result you are trying to get?

Re: Comparing two lists of email adresses in Excel and Need help Highlighting the duplicat

Sorry for the confusion, its been a long week. In the A column I have the master list of every email address my company has ever sent something to, In the B column I have a Geographic Segment number (1-5) that is attatched to the email address in the master list in the A column. In the C column I have a much shorter list of email addresses (people who have opened the email). I need to find the duplicates between the C column (opened Email addresses) and the A column (master list), and then use that to find the geographic segment number of the people who have opened the email (column C). Does that make sense at all?

Aha. Very clear, thank you. I would use this formula in D1 and copy down. If you are not starting in row 1, then change the 1 in the formula to the starting row number.

    Formula: copy to clipboard

(This seems to be inconsistent with something you mentioned the first time, "I have combined the master email list with the geographic location column by separating the email and location with a comma with a "=A2&", "&D2" formula" but I just focused on your latest post.)
