I am trying to come up with a total for the attached where it says total - taking into account the values produced in row 4. However, when I do sum function in B5, I get zero when I should be getting 9.7.
I'm a beginner in Excel so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here.. any help is greatly appreciated!

It's because your IF statement are converting your numbers to text, don't put double quotes around the values
=IF(D3="x",9.7,0)
