'Links to other sources' message cannot be resolved, cannot find the 'links'

When opening a 2007 workbook that I have inherited from someone else, it always opens a warning message: This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated.
    • To change the source of links, or attempt to update values again, click Edit Links.
    • To leave the link as is, click Continue.

    see attachment:

If i click Edit Links, I get this:

    Now what? Please help. Thanks!

Are you just trying to remove the link so the error message does not show anymore? You may want to check the Name Manager in the Formula tab to see if there is a named range that references a different source.

That's correct, just trying to remove the link. But more in detail, I would like to know how one is expected to 'search' a workbook for links. I tried using the Ctrl+F Find tool to look for [] square brackets, in formulas, that would denote a reference to another workbook, and found nothing there.

It has worked. It was a link in a named range. Thank you, thank you, oh thank you.

You are most welcome. I learned that from a very frustrating experiance. As for searching a workbook for links I cant remember off the top of my head. But as far as I can tell if its in a named range you wont find it by searching.
