Lock/Protect Cells based on the color of cell

    Hi Friends,

How do I lock/protect multiple range based on the color of cell. I have a sheet in which color of the range changes based on the values on another cell.

For example in cell A1 if the value is between 1-5 then the color of the range should become RED and the cells in the range should get locked/protected. And if the value of A1 is changed to 7 then the color of the range should become GREEN and user should be able to enter the value in the cells.

    Thanks,
    Nisha

Re: Lock/Protect Cells based on the color of cell

It would be significantly easier to lock the cell based on the number that determines the color. If 1-5 = Red, then the cells become locked if A1 is 1-5.

    Just a thought.

Re: Lock/Protect Cells based on the color of cell

    Hi Speshul,

I would prefer locking the cell based on color of cell (because I am only using two color only ie Red and Green). Whereas if it is based on the value of cell, it will involve multiple conditions, as there may be different values entered by user, but the color of cell will always be RED or GREEN.
Kindly advice how to do it.

    Thanks,
    Nisha

Re: Lock/Protect Cells based on the color of cell

Sorry, I don't know of a way to execute a function based on the color of a cell. I can do it based on a number in a cell, though.

If the cell is formatted using conditional formatting, then the multiple conditions are already specified in the conditional formatting conditions are they not?

Let me know your formula based on the number.

The conditional formatting do not have any function for locking/protecting the cell.

    Thanks
