Adding to an Existing Formula

Hello,

I was wondering if someone can help me add a new function to my spread sheet?

In column D I inserted drop down boxes for our heat races because our drivers receive points for heat races.

1st place = 5 points
2nd place = 4 points
3rd place = 3 points
4th place = 2 points
5th place = 1 point

I put these values in columns AJ and AK off to the right.

I simply would like to have the heat race points added over to the SEASON POINTS (column A) as I update the sheet throughout the season.

If you open the sheet, BILLY VANINWEGEN won the feature race and received 100 points in column A

In column D, Billy also won his heat race so he would need 5 points added to his SEASON POINTS.

I don’t know where or how to make the formula to insert into the existing formula already in column A.

Can anyone help? I’ve been going in circles for hours now and just need to be able to add the heat race points the SEASON POINTS.

I appreciate anyone’s help/advice or suugestions.
