Combine Search with a sumif function

Hi there,

I have bank statement export that has descriptions in a field that are all very different. Relating to these is a field which shows the cost attributed to each of the descriptions.

I need to categorise the costs into supplier groups for a small business (cafe).

I can use the sumif, sumifs, and vlookup functions competently as well as the find and search functions, but I am having trouble combining the two, given the first three relate to arrays and the last two relate to single cells.

I would like to develop a function that will search for values with the string of the description field, in an array and sum the relating values that match that search.

I have attached an example of the sheet, that shows what I want to achieve.

The *'s act as wildcards. You just need to be careful that your search strings are actually unique enough to work. For example if one of them was "Bus" you would look up "Business" as well as "Bus/Busy/Buster" etc.
