Formula to convert result from Mid to date format

Hi

I have a data set that contains ID Numbers, of which the first 6 digits are the birth date, for example 8605011234567. I have setup a mid to extract the data relating to the date (860501), but need it in date format, for example 86/05/01. I cannot use the formatting to do so because it does not bring back the date, but creates another date.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

assuming cell date in in a1 and we are talking about 1900....becomes issue for people born after 2000?...but then how does your short form take that into account anyway?
