Formula for updating publish dates for written articles

I post articles to a website regularly as a part of my job. When I post an article, it is categorized into 1 of 55 content groups (listed in column A of my spreadsheet). In column B, I show the date of the last publicized article for each content group. Next to that, in column C, I show the day count since the last published article for the respective content groups.

    Example:

    Column A| Column B| Column C

    ContentGroup| LastPubArticle| DaysSinceLastPub

    home services| 9/01/2014| 52 (using today's date as reference)

Based on a pre-determined time frame, I look at day count since last publish for each content group and categorize those into priority articles which I then create assignments for to be written.
Once I get the new article and I publish it, I manually change the values in column B and column C.

Is there a formula I can write to better automate this process? Something where maybe I can just input today's date somewhere and it automatically updates days since last publish and re-categorize them so that the most urgent articles (the ones with the highest value in column B) show priority?

Any other ideas to better automate this process are welcome.

    Thanks.
