Formula to arrive back at original figure after adding %

Hi all, hoping I will be able to explain this , so hear goes...

If I add 20% to 100, obviously I get 120 ( Straight forward so far)

However if I take 20% from 120, again obviously this does not equal 100.(96)

I wonder if there is a formula that will ascertain the % in order to make sure I arrive back at 100.

Currently I just trial and error to come out with the % , in this example 16.67%

Probably overthinking this but hopefully explained it for some kind person to help me with a formula?

    Cheers as always

    Simon

If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.
