Advanced filtering - wildcards not working.

I'm using an advanced filter with multiple criteria in Excel 2010: All other criteria are consistent throughout both the below conditions.

The criteria cell heading is the same as the headings in the data to be filtered.

When I enter
="=3537" in a criteria cell, I get the relevant filtered row
similarly when I enter
="=" & $G$80, where G80 has 3537 in it, I get the relevant filtered row


When I enter
="=*" in the same criteria cell, I get nothing!
similarly when I enter
="=" & $G$80, where G80 has * in it, I get nothing.

What gives?

I think wild card don't work with Numbers. Try converting your numbers to text and than test.
