    Talking Excel Formula Problem! Please Help!

    Hi!

    I am using MS Excel 2010 and am encountering a problem putting together a formula that can be used for the following problem;

    I have two columns, both with thousands of postcodes; I need to highlight the postcodes in the first column that are also present in the second one. Ideally I would like to change their colour to green.

    I have tried using a Match formula within conditional formatting which works for a specific cell but because the lookup_value relates to a specific cell I cannot then drag it down to be applied to the full first column.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Kind regards,

    Kevin

    Hmm... while it may not be the most orthodox method... I'd do a work around...
    say your postcodes are in column A and column B starting in cell A2 and B2... I would go to C2 and write the following formula.
    Formula: copy to clipboard
    Please Login or Register to view this content.

    Then I'd take the formula and copy it all the way down the column until your data stops.. This will make it to where any match will return the value.. if the postcode does not have a match then the cell will be blank.
    Then simply filter the column and display only matches... fill in the color green... the unfilter.. all of your matches will then be green.
    Hope that helps you get what you need!

    Kind Regards,
