This may be a dumb question...but I couldn't find a straight answer (and I keep getting it wrong). I'm trying to take a number in cell A1 and multiply it by 30, then by 9 (days and hours) and then reduce it by 15%. What's the best way to go about doing this? I can put the formula in A2.

not sure about the "days and hours" bit in your question. You may want to explain.
Multiply A1 by 30 should be straightforward. Next, multiply by 9. If you want, you can use brackets to make it more apparent what the calculation steps are:
=(A1*30)*9
Now, you want to reduce this by 15%, in other words you only want 85% to show. That means you multiply the result by 0.85
=((A1*30)*9)*0.85
