Formula needed to sort postcodes by first couple of letters

    Hi

I have a large list of premises which has a column listing all their UK postcodes, ie HG2 0AG or B42 1EY etc etc. I would like to be able to sort the premises by the first letters of the postcode which will allow me to sort them into areas/regions, some have 2 letters and others just have a single letter. ie HG or B.

    many thanks

Just sort by the Outgoing part of the code; the part before the space. By default, all the codes for an area will be together.

    Use
    Formula: copy to clipboard

to extract the Outgoing portion of the code into a Helper column. Then sort on the Helper column AND the full Post Code.

Just in case (my experience is that often postcodes lists are "not that perfect") a bit more sophisticated formula could do the work better:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
