Search within a Range using data from a Range

I have a two spreadsheets/workbooks with data in them and I'm trying to use one that has everything organized and identified to tag rows in the other one which is basically just a dump of around 6000 rows of IP addresses.

I've spent all day and I just can't figure out how to use a range of cells as a "lookup_array" every function I try to use only allows a singe cell to be selected or a value entered.

Is it even possible to make a formula that would search a huge list of IP addresses and tag specific rows using a range of cells on another sheet?

All the examples I can find seem to indicate you can only search for a specific value and I need to be able find anywhere from 5 - 255 values

What does your required outcome look like? Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Re: Search within a Range using data from a Range

Sorry it took so long for a response I can't really use the computer until my kids are asleep. So using the random data in the spreadsheet I uploaded as an example...

What I was trying to do was make a formula to copy down the A column that would search "B2:B1281 in Sheet1" using "A2:A256 in Sheet2" and return "Sheet2 A1" when found. Then I gave up and tried using COUNTIF to just return something so I could filter the sheet and copy over the formula to enter the owner myself.

I would just change the range and column in the Sheet2 part of the formula and rinse and repeat until I had every owner in the spreadsheet identified.

Just wanted to put this out there in case someone else needed the same solution. It's pretty easy to modify and add new named ranges to search with in the same module.
