Conditional Formatting and Cell Referencing Previous Cell

I am trying to setup a Conditional Formatting rule that will highlight subsequent cell values that is greater than the previous cell.
I have an example of values below. Given the conditions, value $41,298 would be highlighted since it is greater than the previous cell value of $41,138.

    $42,784
    $41,138
    $41,298
    $39,710
    $37,683
    $36,255
    $35,544
    $34,177
    $32,491

I'd appreciate any guidance on accomplishing this.

use formula to create CF rule.
select range (say A2:A10) and something like:
    =A1<A2
as a formula used to establish a conditional formatting rule should do.
    Best Regards,

Is there a way to copy that across multiple columns without manually creating a new rule for every one? Also, will that auto-update as the range increases and more rows are added?

    Hi VMS_Bhoy,

    1) read carefully and follow http://www.excelforum.com/forum-rule...rum-rules.html it will pay back soon (notice for instance rule 2)
    2) please correct info in your profile. Especially Office version number (some answers would depend on it) but also this annoying: Location **** off advertising spam shite (see rule 6b) (we have a proverb in Poland: "if you do not want to be p i s s e d - o f f do not p i s s on others" Think of info in your profile).

    3) Ad merit: this rule can be easily applied to several columns either with format painter or just (here version of your Office would be usefull) selecting all cells in question and applying such a rule.
