    Creating a formatting rule, help?

    Hey all,

I am trying to create a formatting rule where, conditional on the inserted numeral in one box (example: E50), the formatting in 2 other boxes will change to include a strikethrough and recolor to red. So, if E50 were to say '0', the formatting of box G45 would be red, with a strikethrough. Also, ANY formatting in box G45 would then copy to box G10. I keep thinking I have it, and then nothing. I'm horribly confused.

Is what I'm writing even making sense? This is on Microsoft for Mac, 2011.

I have set this up so that red strikethrough occurs ONLY if E50 is zero. If it is BLANK, the formatting DOES not change.

EXACTLY!!! How did you do that? I will review your formatting rules and poach, but I prefer comprehending rather than simple copy/paste.

The CF rule was imple enough... I set it to do the CF iusing the formula =E50=0. However, that also caused formated cells to go red if E50 was blank, so I added a second rule =E50="" and set it to be the first rule, to apply no formatting and to stop if true.

HA! ok, awesome! I was screwing up in two places (well, mostly in one place, but then I screwed up the screw up kinda). Thank you! I'm still really new to conditional formatting, so I don't even know if my questions are stupid or not sometimes.

Well, if you've got to the stage of screwing up the screw ups, then you're well on the way to Excel addiction... It proves you don't like giving up.
