Vlookup multiple comma seperated search keys

Hey, I am trying to use VLOOKUP to check if any of several comma seperated search keys, located in one cell, are in a range on a another sheet and if so return the value of a a relatively positioned cell.

    Example:

In cell L2 the user has typed "Infantry Armor, Axe". I want VLOOKUP to search for "Infantry Armor" or "Axe" in a defined cell range. Now it doesn't have to find both, since terms are seperated into different ranges based on type and the user is only suppossed to type in one terms of each type. In this example one armor and one weapon. This formula is copied, slightly modified in different places, to produce the data for each type of term. I.E. there is a cell for the armor result and a cell for the weapon result and the VLOOKUP function in each cell only references the range for that type in the other sheet.

Here is a link to the sheet. The functions are the battle sheet and the referenced data is in the gear sheet. the nettlesome functions are row two after column K.

Re: Vlookup multiple comma seperated search keys

    Hi, welcome to the forum

(I have come to the conclusion that I do NOT like working with google docs)

Why cant they just keep it simple and only enter 1 item per cell?
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Because again we have to spend time to learn the google spreadsheet functions which differs from excel functions.

It's waste of time for us...
