USD or EUR conditional formatting depending the value of another cell

Lets say there are values in cells B1 - B20.

I want the formatting to be in currency format, and if cell A1 equals 1, then formatting of above cells should be euro currency format, and if cell A1 equals 2, formatting should be usd currency format.

What I did and which did not work is: I used conditional formatting and use a formula. I created 2 conditional formatting rule for the same cells depending on the value of cell A1 but it doesnt work. It does it once and it keeps the same last formatting for the rest and it doesnt matter what the value of cell A1 is.

I looked thorugh the previous posts regarding conditional formatting but couldnt find anything similar. Any suggestions?

Worked for me, see attached. What I did was highlight column B and did Conditional Formatting, New Formatting Rule, Use Formula to determine which cells to format, then in the "Format values......" field I put

, then another conditional format the same way with 1 instead of 2, then click format button, choose currency, then change to the currency you want for 1 and 2.

You need two formulas

Select the cell

Conditional Formatting
New Rule
Use a formula to determine...

=(A1=1)
Format as Euro
=(A1=2)
Format as Dollar

Use Format painter (paintbrush icon) to copy to any other cells

This works, so if its not working for you, then you need to ensure A1 is changing from 1 to 2 dependant on your dropdown box.

Normally these work if you input the reference number yourself, but when I use a dropdown box it is not working?????

And the output of the dropdown box is changing for sure. I checked it several times.
