    Excel formula for cell that contains a character other than numericals

    There are two columns in the attached excel sheet

    ColumnA has numbers and a character, say for eg. 20 x 50
    I wish to multiply the numericals in column A using direct formula, s o that i will be getting answer as in Column B

    Put in C3 and dragged down:

    =(LEFT(B3,SEARCH(" ",B3,1)-1)+0)*(TRIM(RIGHT(SUBSTITUTE(B3," ",REPT(" ",99)),99))+0)
