    Conditional formatting and sort

Hi...I have for example a column a1..a20 containing 6 digit chassis numbers, all can shuffle up or down in the column depending on various sort options in the spreadsheet. Column c1..c20 contain the some of the same chassis numbers but in a fixed position (they are sourced from a different workbook). In column D1..D20 is a number which can be either 1,2 or 3.
What I am trying to achieve is the chassis number in, for example, cell A2 might have a corresponding identical chassis number in, for example, cell C10 Conditional formatting would then use the contents of D10 (either 1,2 or 3) to change the fill colour of A2.

I do hope that makes sense and any guidance would be gratefully received.

    Hi,

You explained well, but the right way is to upload the sample file... so it can be understood properly.
    Please upload the sample file..

It sounds like you just want to highlight anything in column A when there is a match in column C. So not sure what relevance column D has. See if the attached works for you. Conditional formulas applied to column A based on a MATCH formula. You could do something similar if you need to incorporate column D.

    cond format sample.xlsx

It is not just matching. After matching value in C column It looks for value in D column (same row). Depending on D column value colour is filled. Change the value in D column and see.
