    nested function in conditional formatting

Hi.... I want to conditionally format the fill of B5 based on the variable letter it contains and a value in cells ranging from G5 to Z5. For example if an "A" is entered in B5 and G5 contains "1" then the fill would be red, a zero in G5 would result in no fill, Then if a "B" was entered in B5 and E5 contained a "1" the fill would be red, again a zero in E5 would result in no fill in B5. This would be repeated for "C" in B5 then either a zero or 1 in F5. There would only ever be one combination of letter to a 1 value..... so if I entered for example an "E" in B5 the formula would look to see if K5 had a value of 1 or zero and then either fill or not, "F" entered in B5 and the formula would look to L5 for either a 1 or zero etc etc.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Nigel

Re: nested function in conditional formatting

Use this for the B5 conditional format and make the format a red fill:
    =INDEX($G$5:$Z$5,CODE($B$5)-64)
I'm assuming that you have a mistake in your description where you reference E5 fo a B and F5 for a C.

    Hi Pauley

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. I am not at work at the moment so will check your solution tomorrow. I found trying to explain my problem difficult and am grateful for your suggestion.

    Kind regards

Re: nested function in conditional formatting

Doesnt seem to work....but thats my fault for writing such a poor description of what I need! I will go back to the drawing board and see if I can figure out a different way of achieving the same result.

    Thanks again for your time

    Regards
