    About Vlookup, Hlookup, Lookup and Tables

    Do Vlookup, Hlookup and Lookup formulas work with only tables?

    The data needs to be in a tabular format but it does not need to be a Structured Table.

    They will work also with ranges of data, not just formatted tables.

    I think, thrice of them, are used to output certain corresponding cell when cell in the criteria range meets the criteria.
    so there should be two lists or arrays, one for applying criteria on and one for output. In some cases, both Criteria and output range can be same.
    These two ranges can be far from each other. For example, you can use Column A (having some data in it) for applying criteria AND use Column D to corresponding output. It is irrelevant that Column B and C are populated or not.

    so I think, these formulas takes lists and tables are made of individual list. So Generally, that are supposed to be used on tables.
