index match function using a table and named ranges

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out how to use the index match function based upon 3 different criteria. Any help is appreciated and the workbook is attached if needed.

    Worksheet 1
    1. Cell b1 is a named cell “reportperiod” which is a dropdown list to select months, June, July, Aug, etc.
    2. Cell b2 is a named cell “reportrange” which is a dropdown list to select number of values wanted, 3,6,9,12
    3. Cell b3 is a named cell “tournname” which is a dropdown list to select the name of a tournament

    Worksheet SF Tourn
    1. a table of data, name is sftourn
    2. column A = year, B=Tournament, C=Tournbudget D=tournpaid. Columns b-d are numbers

I am trying to use the index/match function to get the values in tournpaid column from the table, based upon the criteria listed in the 3 dropdowns in worksheet 1. These values will be named and used in a chart.

I’m having trouble figuring this out and would appreciate any help.

    Thanks

I am confused about one thing and there's one thing that's wrong in your sheet.

Confusion. How do you hope that the number of values fiedl will work? So far as I know, you can return all matching values that meet the criteria (date and competiton name). If you want to add other criteria, that's fine, too So, exactly what were you hoping to get here.

secondly, the dates in your dropdown is 1st of th emonth. the dates in your Table are dd-mm-yy dates. So unless the race took place on 1st of the month, Excel won't find a match. Can I add another date column (mm-yy) to the table, to get that bit working?

I am hoping to create a graph from those values, similar to the graph in worksheet1, but with data from the sftourn table.
I did not notice the dates are different and will correct those. You can make any changes to the table you need to.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Hi. I've added another date column (1st of month) to the big Table. I've set up a formula (shaded in green) to return all values that match the month and tournament name (and fudged some results in the big Table to make the formula have multiple results to return - shaded in pink).

    Are we getting close yet??

Yes, this is exactly what I was hoping to do, very appreciated. I will need to do some research to understand parts of your formula!

    Thank you
