    Problems with (inverse) INDEX-MATCH Function

    Dear all,

I'm encountering a problem regarding the INDEX-MATCH function I'm trying to get to work. Might be hard to explain in words, so I'll try to be as clear as possible.
Basically, you can check the excel file below for my problem & description.

    Problem for review by forum.xlsx

Keywords: Index Match formula, multiple criteria, column instead of rows.

I guess the problem is somewhere in here: INDEX(array, row_num, [column_num]). Since in my case its not a 'row-problem' but a 'column-problem', probably here something goes wrong.

Can someone help me with this? Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,

    Lennart

Change your formula to =INDEX($I$7:$Q$7,MATCH(I10&I11,$I$5:$Q$5&$I$6:$Q$6,0)), and enter with Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys together.

    Hi.

If the aim of the game, (you don't specifically say) is to find the column number of the last occurrence of the month then simply

Thanks JieJenn, that's exactly what I mean. It works on the simple example, have to implement it in a larger & complexer worksheet, hope that works too.

@Richard: it's not about the column number, really about a specific value in a certain row, with regard to the 2 criteria. Thanks for the thinking though!

Re: Problems with (inverse) INDEX-MATCH Function

    Alright guys,

Formula didn't work on the data I needed it to work on, but I found another one that works.
Thanks for the help anyway, I'll mark the thread as solved.

    Cheers!
