Max & min formula in cricket statistics

Is there a formula which I can use to record the best bowling figures for a cricketer during and at the end of a season.

In the attachment I have given 3 examples.

Player A has bowling figures in 4 matches of 2-22, 4-44, 4-33 & 3-11. His best bowling figures would therefore be 4-33.
Player B has bowling figures in 4 matches of 1-13, 5-33, 4-12 & 5-20. His best bowling figured would therefore be 5-20.
Player C has bowling figures in 4 matches of 2-55, 1-0, 6-15 & 4-44. His best bowling figures would therefore be 6-15.

The formulae used in column Y list the most number of wickets taken in each match (4, 5 & 6 respectively) - that part of the formula is no problem.

The problem occurs when I try to determine the least number of runs conceded when attached to the most number of wickets taken.
e.g. for Player A, the MIN value returns 11 when I want it to return 33. Same for Player B (20 should be 33) and for Player C (o should be 15).

Can anyone solve this dilemma for me?

Why isn't player C's best bowling 1-0? I thought the best bowling was effectively the minimum runs per wicket.

    Crooza
though i dont disagree with you

    according to the internet
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket_statistics

Best bowling (BB): The bowler's best bowling performance, defined as firstly the greatest number of wickets, secondly the fewest runs conceded for that number of wickets. (Thus, a performance of 7 for 102 is considered better than one of 6 for 19.)

Re: Max & min formula in cricket statistics

Yeah curiosity got the better of me and I googled the top 10 bowling stats and it seems its it the highest wickets first then the least runs not simply the runs per wicket. therefore a 6/18 is better than 5 / 5 even though the first is 3 runs per wicket and the second is 1 run per wicket

    humdingaling:

Many, many thanks for that formula. It does indeed solve the problem.
I have spent countless hours over a number of years for thousands of cricketers doing this manually.

There may, however, be a follow-up query as I now need for solve how to work out the player's best bowling figures for the season when he plays in more than one team AND also to determine his best figures for the current season compared to his career figures from previous seasons.
I shall play around with this formula to see if I can solve these issues before I worry you again.

Again, my undying thanks for solving this for me.

CROOZA: Thanks for your input but, yes, a 7 wicket haul is better than 1-0 as humdlingaling said.

not a problem, Glad to help

if your going to start looking at larger data sets (ie season/yearly/career) i would try to get the data output into a more user friendly format for that type of analysis
