I have a need to highlight the same cells in Table 2 as Table 1 that have data (not empty). Not all cells in Table 1 will have data. Only those that are relevant. I tried conditional formatting but it didn't seem to work... I've added a sample....

Try this...
Select the ENTIRE range R6:AC17 starting from cell R6.
Cell R6 will be the active cell. The active cell is the
one cell in the selected range that is not shaded. The
formula will be relative to the active cell.
Goto the Home tab>Styles>Conditional Formatting>
Manage rules>New rule>Use a formula to determine
which cells to format
Enter this formula in the box below:
=D6<>""
Click the Format button
Select the desired style(s)
OK out
