    Copy/pasting hyperlinks with links

    Hello.

I'm using excel as browser for files in multiple location.
I have thousands links like this:

    B5: =HYPERLINK("C:\Specific\Folder\" & A5 &".docx"; A5)
    Where A5: 001-002-003

Then B5 links to a file called: 001-002-003.docx in specific folder.
In my sheet I'll hand in, I'm not allowed to have the A5 with the filename.

What colleges do is manual select all the hyperlinks.

As I need to remove the A5 I though I could copy/paste the B column with all the hyperlinks with some special effect to keep the link without referencing to filename in A5.

    Any other way around this?

    Re: Copy/pasting hyperlinks with links

    Hi,

It's a bit roundabout, but try this:
In column B, use Find and Replace to get rid of the 'friendly name' ('A5' etc):
    Find: ;A?)
    Replace: )
This will leave the formulae as =HYPERLINK("C:\Specific\Folder\" & A5 &".docx"), leaving you with B5 reading something like C:\Specific\Folder\001-002-003.docx with the hyperlink still in place.
Now copy all the hyperlinks to Word - they'll appear in a table. Select all the cells in the table and paste back into Excel.
Now you can remove column A and the hyperlinks should still work.

Edit: this worked for me, but as you've got thousands of links, I suggest you try this on a copy of your sheet first!

    Good luck.
