Conditional Formatting - Highlight row based on date in I column

    Hi,

I am trying to highlight a row based on the date in the I column. The colour coding is based on quarterly dates; yellow for Jan 1 to Mar 31, orange for Apr 1-Jun 30, Green for Jul 1-Sep 30 and blue for Oct 1-Dec 31. I have the conditional formatting for the I column only as it based on a cell but would like for it to highlight the whole row.

Are the dates all within the same year? If so, what year?

the spreadsheet is copied from previous year so to start the year, all dates would be 2014 or prior. The idea is to highlight each one as it is done and the new date (current year) is what is to be formatted (if it doesn't get a new date then no formatting required)

So, apply the formatting to only those rows where the date in column I is in the year 2015?

apply a conditional formatting rule to each colour code foe a 2015 date? if so, what would be the best way to apply only the 2015?

Re: Conditional Formatting - Highlight row based on date in I column

    Try this...

Let's assume you want to format columns A to I in the range A2:I10.

Select the ENTIRE range A2:I10 starting from cell A2.
Cell A2 will be the active cell. The active cell is the
one cell in the selected range that is not shaded. The
formula will be relative to the active cell.

    Goto the Home tab>Styles>Conditional Formatting>
    Manage rules>New rule>Use a formula to determine
    which cells to format

Enter this formula in the box below:

    =AND($I2>=DATE(2015,1,1),$I2<=DATE(2015,3,31))

    Click the Format button
    Select the desired style(s)
    OK out

Repeat this process for each of the date ranges.

    Thank-you! works great!!

had to change the I2 to I9 - which is where spreadsheet started

I had to watch the formula in the Manage Rules screen as it would change my cell from I9 to I4 or I5 but that must be just a glich.
