    Dynamic sumif formula

    Hello All

    I have attached my simple worksheet and need help figuring out how to create a dynamic sumif formula. In the attached worksheet the following apply:

    1. Cell A2 contains the in service period
    2. Row 5 columns B:CG contain the number of weeks per fiscal period
    3. Row 6 columns B:CG contain the fiscal period ID
    4. Row 7 columns B:CG is where my formula is needed

    If the in service period is 201510 I would like the sum function to start summing the weeks in cell Q5 and continue to increase the sum range as you work from column to column to the right. In other words Cell Q7=4, R7=8, S7=13, ...

    I think I may not be describing my need as clearly as possible but I hope you pros can help.

    I appreciate all of your time and input.

    Thank you

    Re: Dynamic sumif formula

    Thank you both for your time and help.

    NeedForExcel - You nailed it. My brain was fried last night after a 12 hour work day so I was over complicating things by trying to find a single "****" formula solution. Glad you gave me the slap in the face that I needed. I appreciate you!

    Thanks

    J

    Sorry for off-topic interjection:

    Although there is no official rule regarding this behavior, we request that wherever possible both the question AND the answer be provided in substantive detail here within the thread. An attached workbook is an excellent aid for posing a question and offering a solution, but solely doing that with no in thread explanation makes it difficult for researchers to understand or consider the Q & A of this thread without downloading what may be a pointless doc to them, if they can do that at all. Doing that also hides the content from search engines so others may never benefit from this.

    I'm sure you understand, and we look forward to seeing you post your formulas/macros in your posts for the searching benefit of all.

    Thanks again for all your hard work here!

    @TonyValko -

    What you are saying is absolutely right. Point noted!

    I generally put the Formula/Code in the Post aswell as attach a sample workbook.

    But, I do tend to attach just the workbook sometimes..

    Will avoid in the future..

    @j2mbs1655

    Did you try nflsales's solution?

    His does the same except using a Helper column, and is better formula work..

    Suggest you try it out
