Pulling data from one workbook to a second one not working

I need to pull values from one workbook to another in excel 2003.

    I tried the following code [code]='[Tournament Register.xls]Signup'!$A$1[code/]

This doesn't work please let me know if the syntax need to change or another method to do the task.

Yes, the other workbook is open but the formula is all that shows in the destination cell - no data from the source workbook.

    Thanks for your help

Re: Pulling data from one workbook to a second one not working

Are calculations set to automatic ?
If yes, cell is probably formatted as text - Format as general- Hit F2 then Enter
